IS YOUR TOWN TAKEN?

Every so often someone creates a local Geek Breakfast for their city or town, but they never act on it. They take the time to register, but they never actually host a breakfast, or a major time lapse occurs between breakfasts.

If this is the case for your city and you want to host Geek Breakfast please let me know. You can contact me at geekbreakfast AT gmail DOT com.

Let’s work together to get a little spring cleaning done to help Geek Breakfast flourish.

Cheers,
Dave Delaney

GOING TO SXSW INTERACTIVE?

POSTED BY ADMIN ON FEBRUARY 22ND

We’re having a special Geek Breakfast in Austin during the massive South by Southwest Interactive conference. If you’re going to be there you NEED to plan to attend the 2nd Austin SXSW Geek Breakfast.

Last year we all had a blast getting together for an early morning, pre-conference breakfast. Knoxville’s Scott Maentz wrote: It was definitely an impressive group of geeks. Check out the photos and videos from last year on his blog.

Austin’s own Kim Haynes Hollenshead blogged that …it was mighty early, but I met some great people at my 8 am breakfast! You really shouldn’t miss this!

We normally do Geek Breakfasts early, so folks can meet before they have to be in the office. We do it early in Austin during SXSW so you don’t miss any sessions. It might be early, but you’ll sleep when you’re dead! :)

I hope to see you there! RSVP now while space permits.

WHAT’S A GEEK BREAKFAST?

POSTED BY ADMIN ON SEPTEMBER 10TH

A Geek Breakfast is a monthly community-driven meeting for local (and visiting) technology-minded people. Each month attendees congregate over bacon, eggs and plenty of coffee to discuss topics like social media, digital marketing, design, programming, and ways to better their communities.

The first geek breakfast was held in December 2007 in Nashville, TN.

The Three Rules of Geek Breakfast (almost as easy as Fight Club)

1. Everyone is invited, attendance is free (excluding food, beverage and gratuity).

2. Pictures, audio and video should be licensed under Creative Commons and tagged using “yourcitynamegeekbreakfast” and “geekbreakfast”. Please add them to the Geek Breakfast Flickr Group.

3. Geek Breakfasts shall never be sponsored. If a company approaches you about sponsorship opportunities recommend they sponsor local unconferences instead, like a barcamp or podcamp. It’s important to note that if the breakfast gets sponsored you’ll wind up with many people turning up for a free meal, rather than being there to contribute to the conversation.

Would you like to start your own? Here’s how. Don’t forget to grab yourself a snazzy new logo too!
